一般注記 | License restrictions may limit access As part of a Doctorate Degree, I engaged in mixed method research and developed a model for privatising ZESCO Limited to improve its performance. This case study highlights several strengths and weaknesses in conducting mixed methods research using the survey strategy. In my research, I specifically used sequential design, collecting and analysing quantitative data and then collecting and analysing qualitative data. I used surveys and interviews as the main and secondary research strategies, respectively. I used questionnaires as part of my survey strategy to collect quantitative data from ZESCO Limited's customers in Lusaka District. This strategy helped me collect data that was standardized, easy to explain, and generalizable. Despite these strengths, the data lacked depth, so I used semi-structured interview guides to solicit detailed explanations from interviews with various government officials in the energy sector. To guarantee data quality, I followed a myriad of steps that enabled me to seamlessly integrate quantitative and qualitative components of the research. For example, I analyzed quantitative and qualitative data using SPSS and reflexive thematic analysis, respectively. I also addressed ethical issues by obtaining gatekeeper letters, and by ensuring confidentiality, anonymity, and integrity during data collection, analysis, and presentation. By following such steps, I established that stakeholders believed that ZESCO Limited's performance would improve if it were privatized. I also discerned that Competitive Concession was the most suitable model for privatising the company.Ultimately, I learned that the limitations of the survey strategy could be minimized by adding interviews as a secondary research strategy. I also learned that using mixed methods research was complicated, costly, and time consuming. Nonetheless, it was necessary as it led to quality findings by allowing investigators to intentionally integrate qualitative and quantitative data, to maximize the strengths and minimize the weaknesses of each Description based on XML content |
